The second full-length record from psychedelic doom duo Taurus, composed of Stevie Floyd (Dark Castle) and Ashley Spungin (ex-Purple Rhinestone Eagle) sounds more like something channeled than rationally composed. The tracks seem born of an eerily unconscious process, the layers of sound threatening constantly to fall into complete, discordant disarray, all the more frightening for clinging to some semblance of order.
Spungin's drumming, tight and precise even as it revels in inevitability and wretchedness, serves as the anchor for the record, while the frayed guitar and shrieked, wheeling vocals soar upward, barely tethered. There is the air of a dark rite to tracks like "Lives Long For Own," as though the pair were summoning dark forces they could just barely control. Deeply unsettling and often threatening, No/Thing creeps perilously close to the edge of sense and restraint.
