Tegan and Sara Join Matthew Dear on "Bad Ones"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Aug 29, 2017

Matthew Dear kicked off 2017 by curating a record for legendary mix series DJ-Kicks, and now he's unveiled a brand new single featuring some familiar friends.

For "Bad Ones," the DJ/producer has enlisted the help of Canadian popsters Tegan and Sara.

"The process was open and free," Dear said in a statement about the collaboration. "Often times, we need to get out of our own way to let the magic happen, and this song is a bold reminder of that."

"I heard the piece of music Matthew sent through while driving to get a haircut in West Hollywood. I always feel like an interloper on that side of town and the phrase 'freaking out and paralyzed' was suddenly looping in my head," Sara Quin added. "I couldn't stop thinking about how finding someone who loves the more complicated parts of you is a relief, especially when they're not turned off by your socially awkward insecurities or tendencies to retreat inward. Matthew's music has always been my go-to for late night bus rides in headphones and I still geek out that we made this together!"

Dear's last full-length under his own name arrived in 2012 with Beams. Tegan and Sara, meanwhile, dropped Love You to Death last year and recently revealed plans for a 10th anniversary covers tribute to their 2007 album The Con.

We'll have to wait and see if Dear returns the creative favour and contributes to The Con X: Covers, but for now, listen to his Tegan and Sara-featuring "Bad Ones" below.
