Despite already having one of the biggest catalogues out there, Jimi Hendrix has ten more years' worth of unreleased material, says the late musician's sister.
The revelation was made this week, as Universal Music Publishing Group took over as the exclusive worldwide administrator of the Jimi Hendrix catalogue outside the U.S. The deal, which was inked with Hendrix's American publishing company ,Experience Hendrix, could result in "ten more years of Hendrix music," according to sister Janie Hendrix, who is also the president and CEO of Experience Hendrix.
Through the deal, two new Hendrix albums are already expected to be released in 2009, one of which will be through Experience Hendrix's Dagger "bootleg" imprint and sold exclusively on the company's website. More live CDs and DVDs are also set to come this year, showcasing the Jimi Hendrix Experience's 1969 performance at London's Royal Albert Hall, as well as behind-the-scenes footage that will give fans a "reality TV" glimpse of the legendary guitarist, Janie Hendrix told Billboard.
Along with all the above, Janie Hendrix said she is overseeing the studio transferring of never-before-seen Band of Gypsys performances, and an album featuring both Jimi Hendrix and Stephen Stills is also supposedly in the works.
According to some experts, there have been more than 160 Jimi Hendrix albums already released, and according to Billboard and Nielsen SoundScan, his catalogue annually sells about 1.2 million copies worldwide.
