Tennis Unveil Winter North American Tour, New Album Detail

BY Alex HudsonPublished Dec 16, 2011

We already knew that nautically minded indie pop crew Tennis would be releasing their Patrick Carney-produced second album Young and Old, in the new year via Fat Possum. Now, we've got some more details of that release, along with some tour dates.

A press release notes that the album was largely written within a three-month period and then recorded in three weeks in Nashville. In our recent review of the band's Vancouver show, we noted that the new material "suggested that the group have been spending a lot of time listening to vintage soul as of late." Sure enough, singer Alaina Moore said in a statement that Young and Old sounds like "Stevie Nicks going through a Motown phase."

While this year's Cape Dory was written with a third member in mind, the follow-up was arranged for a four-piece. Black Keys drummer Carney said of the album, "I am really proud to say I worked on the new Tennis album. I think they are a really talented band, and it's exciting to work with a band who is trying to move forward. Patrick, Alaina and James have great ideas -- everything really comes together on this record."

After the album comes out on February 14, Tennis will support it with another North American tour. This time they'll hit up Toronto, in addition to a number of U.S. cities.

Scroll past the dates to listen to Tennis's mournful cover of Broadcast's "Tears in the Typing Pool." Below that is the Carney-produced new single "Origins," which is available now on seven-inch vinyl via Forest Family Records.
