The Head and the Heart have detailed their sixth studio LP. The Seattle band will share Aperture on May 9 via Verve Forecast.
Following 2022's Every Shade of Blue, the 12-song Aperture marks the Head and the Heart's first self-produced album since their 2011 self-titled debut. The effort is previewed today by "After the Setting Sun."
"For me, Aperture represents the choice we all must make between resigning ourselves to darkness, or letting the light in and recognizing our own agency to do so," the band's Matty Gervais explains in a release. "It feels relevant to the times, in that we're literally choosing between authoritarianism vs. democracy. Ignorance vs. enlightenment on a macro scale, and complacency/cynicism vs. hope, empathy and perseverance on the micro scale. To me, it sums up a lot of what each of these songs is grappling with in some form and what we've collectively gone through as a band. It's about choosing hope again and again, no matter how many times it may feel that you have lost it."
The Head and the Heart will also begin a North American tour behind the album on May 31 in Detroit. Select dates will see support from Futurebirds, Anna Graves, Wild Rivers, Marfa, Wilderado, Katie Pruitt, the Teskey Brothers, John Vincent III and Tyler Ballgame.
After that kickoff date, the tour's next two dates come in Canada, bringing the Head and the Heart to Toronto's History on June 1, ahead of a stop at Montreal's MTELUS on June 6. From there, the band will come back to Canada in September for Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival in Fredericton, NB.
