The Mars Volta are beginning their 2025 on a North American tour with Deftones and Fleshwater, and appear to be using their time on stage to perform a set of yet-to-be-released material.
At the tour's kickoff Tuesday (February 25) at the Moda Center in Portland, OR, the outfit led by Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala played a set of 18 songs that were unknown to listeners. You can find fan-shot footage of the opening numbers below.
As ThePRP points out, the new material made its live debut just under a month removed from rumblings of a new Mars Volta album, which would mark the second full-length from Rodríguez-López and Bixler-Zavala since they returned to action with their 2022 self-titled LP.
Product listings from a series of online music retailers pointed to an 18-song release titled Lucro sucio; Los ojos del vacio arriving on April 11. The listings, discussed by Mars Volta listeners on Reddit, have since been removed by retailers, while the band have yet to announce any new material.
The Mars Volta's tour with Deftones and Fleshwater features no performances in Canada. In 2023, the band released an acoustic reimagining of their aforementioned 2022 album, titled Que Dios Te Maldiga Mi Corazón.
The duo's documentary Omar and Cedric: If This Ever Gets Weird recently received a wider theatrical release.
