A video on Twitter X shows a crowd of people waiting for the event to begin while the 1984 track "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want" played over the arena's speakers. Considering a re-election would not be the first time Trump got what he wanted, this truly is the worst timeline.
At the very least, Johnny Marr — the patrician half of the Smiths' songwriting duo — is promising to follow in the footsteps of Neil Young, Phil Collins, the Village People and many others who didn't give Trump permission to use their music: "I never in a million years would've thought this could come to pass. Consider this shit shut down right now," he tweeted posted.
Considering Morrissey believes conspiracy theories about COVID-19, speculated he was dropped by his label in favour of "diversity hires" and wore a pin in support of the far-right For Britain Party, he shouldn't care too much about this. Unless he sees Marr's disgust as another tactic to erase him from the Smiths, of course.
