Jacob Thiele, the former keyboardist of long-running indie group the Faint, has passed away. He was 40 years old.

A cause of death was not revealed, but the news that the musician died on Thursday (February 13) was confirmed by the Omaha World-Herald. Thiele's former bandmates in the Faint also shared a statement.

"We are devastated to lose our dear friend Jacob Thiele," they wrote. "He was a true synthesizer pioneer, and the Faint would not have sounded the same without him. We were incredibly lucky to have had the time we did with him."

Thiele was a member of the Faint from 1998 through 2016, playing on their seminal albums like Blank-Wave Arcade and Danse Macabre. He last appeared on 2014's Doom Abuse and was also a member of the Faint side-project Depressed Buttons.
