Thunder Bay indie rock crew the Honest Heart Collective are back. Following up their 2015 debut Liar's Club, the band are unleashing follow-up Grief Rights, and while the album isn't out quite yet, you can get in on an advance stream now.
Led by Ryan and Nic MacDonald, the group crafted their new album with producers/engineers Derek Hoffman and Jay Ruston, recording the LP at Toronto's Fox Sounds, Union Sound Company, and out of the band's self-built studio in Thunder Bay, Lionheart Studios.
And while the Honest Heart Collective already shared the crunchy and soulful "Separate Ways" and emotive "I've Got You," you can now hear the album in full below. Get ready for classic American heartland sensibilities to collide head-on with '90s emo-rock touches for a sound that very much stands on its own.
"These songs capture that everyday fight you have with who you are and who you want to be," says lead singer Ryan MacDonald. "A year and a half ago, I was an anxious mess. I started to see a therapist who really made me dig deeper into myself. After a few sessions, he told me that the root of my anxiety was that I wasn't allowing myself my grief rights. It's a period of time when it was okay to not be okay. It was a strange concept to me and not knowing what to do, I dove into books about my idols and revisited some of my favourite Springsteen records. The phrase 'Grief Rights' has stuck with me since that session, and honestly, it changed my life."
The Honest Heart Collective have a series of Canadian dates coming up in support of the album, and you can see them all below. You can also pre-order Grief Rights over here.
Grief Rights officially arrives on May 4.
