The Killers and Panda Express Settle Their Fortune Cookie Beef

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 13, 2017

Panda Express is best known for serving up American-Chinese dishes like Beijing beef, but the fast-food chain landed itself in a beef of the Twitter variety earlier this month over one of the fortunes found in its cookies.

The Killers received the message "Smile Like You Mean It" in one of the tasty treats, taking it as a direct reference to their Hot Fuss song of the same name and demanding reparations to the tune of orange chicken for life. They later reached out to the chain, suggesting the company help feed the hungry with some of its "Panda love."

Now, the fast-food chain has responded to the Killers, offering to make a charitable donation to an organization of the band's choosing — and it seems the Las Vegas-based Serving Our Kids Foundation will be the lucky recipient of some #OrangeChickenLove.

So, Brandon Flowers and co. may not be getting the lifetime supply of artery-clogging poultry they initially asked for, but it seems like everyone involved will be ending up smiling (and meaning it).
