The Killers Say Another Album Is Coming in "About 10 Months"

"It might be better than this one"

The Killers returned with their sixth studio album Imploding the Mirage last week after a serious delay over COVID-19 — and now it appears the band are already on track to produce a follow-up, according to frontman Brandon Flowers.

Speaking with NME, Flowers confirmed that he, along with the band and their contributors, has been taking the time between touring next year and releasing Imploding the Mirage to make use of their active "songwriting muscles."

"You know when someone makes a record and they say that they have 50 songs and they're going to release another record? Well, we really are!" he told NME. "We're going to release another one in about 10 months. I'm excited. It might be better than this one."

Flowers also said that the band have met up with producers Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado in the studio ahead of this so-far-untitled project, and that their new work shares "no thread" with their latest release.

"I'm not writing a quarantine album or anything like that," he explained. "You kind of just start hitting your stride when you're finishing a record. You're writing lyrics, you're mixing everything, you're in it — then you go on tour. It's interesting to not be going on tour and having any of that stuff taking up my brain. I just went right back to the piano. I was already exercising my songwriting muscles so a lot of it came very quickly."

Flowers continued: "Something powerful happened when I shut off the part of my brain that runs towards the grind and just started running towards the creative part of my brain."

The Killers recently rescheduled their world tour in support of their latest release. Should they deliver on their promise to release yet another body of work in 10 months, their forthcoming album should arrive sometime during the 2021 trek.
