Alison Mosshart makes up one half of garage duo the Kills and fronts Jack White's blues-punk band the Dead Weather. Now, the vocalist has shared her first-ever solo single along with a self-made video.
The tune is called "Rise," and sounds like a slightly more restrained version of what we've heard from Mosshart in the past. Beginning as a minimal, finger-picked ballad, the song eventually picks up the pace with crunchy blooze licks and thumping rhythms.
The self-produced video shows Mosshart headbanging and singing dramatically into the camera, which is intercut with images of fancy-schmancy cars driving through the streets of Los Angeles and showing off their over-the-top hydraulics.
"Rise" was recorded with producer Lawrence Rothman and is out through Domino. It appears in the soundtrack of the Facebook Watch show Sacred Lies, and there's no indication that Mosshart has any further plans for solo music. The Kills are currently working on a new album.
