The National Unveil New "Hairpin Turns" Video

BY Sarah MurphyPublished May 1, 2019

The National will release their next album, I Am Easy to Find, later this month, and they've teased the forthcoming LP with a new video for "Hairpin Turns."

The single follows previously shared tracks "You Had Your Soul with You" and "Light Years," and the accompanying visuals were once again directed by Mike Mills.

The video features the band members switching up their usual instruments to tinker with electronics and a piano. They're also accompanied by a dancer and additional musicians.

"The video is a very simple portrait of the band (and the friends who helped make the song) and the song itself: You see all the instruments that make up the song in isolation, even hear them recorded live on set over the album version, kind of like showing you the tracks that make up the song," Mills said in a statement. "And you see everyone who contributed alone, including Gail Ann Dorsey, Pauline Delasser (a.k.a. Mina Tindle) and Kate Stables — but your mind puts them together."

As previously reported, Mills directed a companion film for the album, also called I Am Easy to Find.

"The dancer Sharon Eyal is sort of a continuation of Alicia Vikander's character from the film I Am Easy To Find," he added. "We thought of her as Alicia's unconscious, or her shadow self — that has her own life in this space."

I Am Easy to Find is due out May 17 via 4AD.

The National will embark on a world tour, complete with Canadian dates, this summer.
