The Smugglers Announce Toronto Reunion Show

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Apr 6, 2017

The Smugglers recently revealed plans for a reunion show in their hometown of Vancouver, but now Grant Lawrence and the gang are bringing their live show to fans a little further east. The group will perform at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto on June 16.

The gig marks the band's first Toronto concert in more than 13 years, and it arrives in conjunction with Lawrence's latest book — a memoir about his touring life with the band, dubbed Dirty Windshields: The Best and the Worst of the Smugglers Tour Diaries.

"I've been working on this book on and off for over ten years," Lawrence said in a statement. "It's been a huge labour of love. Reading through and shaping my old tour diaries into a book has been both rewarding and embarrassing, much like my career with the Smugglers."

Speaking specifically about the upcoming return to Toronto, he added: "I hoped we'd do a Toronto gig to launch the book, and the Horseshoe Tavern was the natural choice. It's not only one of our favourite places and a historic musical landmark, but a club that holds a special place in our hearts for supporting us very early on. We did a string of New Year's Eve gigs at the 'Shoe that we'll never forget."

They'll be joined on the June 16 bill by New Enchanters, Needles//Pins and Duotang — which is truly a moment of Canrock coming full circle, as Duotang shared the stage with the Smugglers at their first Horseshoe show over 20 years ago.

Tickets for the Toronto show go on sale at noon today (April 6). They'll be available at local record shops Rotate This and Soundscapes, or online via Ticketfly.

Dirty Windshields: The Best and the Worst of the Smugglers Tour Diaries is due out on May 13 through Douglas & McIntyre.
