Thee Oh Sees

Only a few short months after the release of Dog Poison, John Dwyer's ever-prolific band of psych peddlers, Thee Oh Sees, are back with Warm Slime. And like its recent predecessor, the seven-track, 45-rpm record plays out as an EP rather than some big, hit-you-over-the-head album. Of course, in Oh Sees land, this is business as usual. Unfortunately, this doesn't give you a lot to chew on, especially when the entire first half is taken up by the 13-minute freak-out-filled title track. Like the recent "Quadrospazzed" twelve-inch, this lengthy number again shows that Thee Oh Sees are best when they keep it to the point. Warm Slime's second side, luckily, does this quite well, with Dwyer and company taking the lo-fi guitar-fuzz template of Help and upping the drugged-out, acid-freak vibe. They also make the songs even dirtier, rougher and, yes, slimier, believe it or not. Bummer of the first half aside, Warm Slime shows Thee Oh Sees can doll out some quality with all that quantity.
