London's Thomas Cohen has turned over a new leaf with his first solo album, entitled Bloom Forever. Best known as the frontman of S.C.U.M since the age of 17, Cohen's solo work finds him presenting a collection of songs inspired by a series of life changes. In the last handful of years, Cohen married and became a father before his wife, Peaches Geldof, died tragically in 2012. The songs on Bloom Forever, an album named after one of their sons' middle names, were written in chronological order from 2012 to 2015.

"Morning Fall" provides a lilting introduction to the record, its introspective bass and guitar in the verses gently introducing the listener to Cohen's world. He excels at creating a laid-back, '70s feel to his songs that's particularly apparent on "Hazy Shades," its dreamy, country-tinged rock cradling the listener. The rhythm section is tight, contrasting the track's atmospheric elements. He branches out with the gospel-influenced chorus of "Ain't Gonna Be No Rain," while the delicacy of "Country Home" fits its heartbreaking subject matter.

Thomas Cohen has solidified his reputation as a gifted songwriter on the British scene with Bloom Forever. The album shows the growth of a young musician developing his voice outside of his former band, chronicling major life changes and exploring a varied sonic palette.
