Some members of Throbbing Gristle are finally about to finish their long-gestating Desertshore project.
Back in June of 2007, the industrial pioneers got together at the London Institute of Contemporary Arts and played some sets based on smoky singer Nico's 1970 album, Desertshore. The six two-hour recording sessions were documented and released as a limited-edition, 12-CD-R set titled Desertshore Installation, but the band had hoped to lay down an album proper of the material.
While recent events, like leader Genesis P-Orridge leaving the group and Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson passing away last November, sidelined the sessions, it looks as if the record will finally be made.
A post on Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti's blog Even Horizon states that they will be involved with the "recording, mixing and production of TG Desertshore project" from September through to November of this year. The project is slated for a 2012 release on Throbbing Gristle's Industrial Records.
It's unclear whether vocalist P-Orridge will return to the fold for the sessions, but we're keeping our fingers crossed that the singer participates in the project.
Thanks to FACT for the tip.
