It's been almost ten years since Rancid leader Tim Armstrong first teamed up with drummer Travis Barker and rapper/roadie Rob Aston for the punk- and hip-hop-infused Transplants, and five years since their sophomore LP Haunted Cities. But the shampoo-commercial-scoring act have announced their return, as Armstrong has confirmed a new album is in the pipeline.
An interview with Collider [via Punknews] found Armstrong dishing the details on the band's upcoming record, explaining that they've been getting material ready the last little while at Barker's home studio and hope to have the as-yet-untitled package out sometime next year.
"We're going to focus on the Transplants in December, but we already have a lot of that recorded," Armstrong said. "We were meeting at Travis Barker's studio every Tuesday, also known as Transplants Tuesday. We would just go up and play there, so we've got some tracks, but we're going to try to finish that up in December."
While the news of a Transplants LP is sure to stoke the Fructis execs and anyone with a luscious head of hair, Armstrong also revealed some deets on a new Rancid platter, insisting that their next record will come out in 2012 as well. The follow-up to 2009's Let the Dominoes Fall, which we called "the most listless Rancid affair yet," will feature Epitaph/Bad Religion founder Brett Gurewitz behind the boards. It will be issued as a split release between Epitaph and Armstrong's Hellcat imprint.
