In addition to releasing eight proper studio LPs, Nottingham, UK's Tindersticks have recorded a string of haunting soundtracks for French director Claire Denis. Four of these were performed by the whole band, with two more being credited to singer Stuart A. Stapes and former member Dickon Hinchliffe. Now the six scores will be packaged together in the box set Claire Denis Film Scores 1996-2009, due out April 26 via Constellation.
The scores included in the box are: 1996's Nenette Et Boni, 2001's Trouble Every Day, 2002's Vendredi Soir (by Hinchliffe), 2004's L'intrust (by Staples), 2008's 35 Rhums and 2009's White Material. Four of these soundtracks are previously unreleased.
The box is available in CD or LP, with the six scores spread across five discs. The solo scores by Hinchliffe and Staples are each around the 23-minute mark, and appear on a single CD or on opposite sides of the same LP. The lavish set will also include a 48-page booklet with movie stills and an essay by journalist Michael Hill.
Pre-orders and audio previews will be available next week for anyone signed up to the Constellation newsletter.
To promote the release, Tindersticks will be performing excerpts from the scores live. According to an announcement on Constellation's website, the band will be playing "a series of ambitious concerts in cinematic settings, bringing together the music with the evocative images that inspired it."
This will include an appearance at the San Francisco Film Festival in May and planned European shows. However, all the specific dates have not yet been announced.
