The Hortator's Lament

BY Roman SokalPublished May 1, 2003

At last, this ultra-obscure band gets to see the light of day on compact disc. But the light turns to dark immediately upon the first second of play. The Hortator's Lament is a collection of rarities as well as their 1994 debut, and it involves being raped by immensely slow, incalculable dirty seizing rusty metal stoner death riffs with distant agonising vocals that ever so justify the description. Those in tune with early Neurosis, Melvins, Eyehategod and latter day Shallow North Dakota should seek solace in this beast of an album, which is like the Twin Peaks of sludge rock.
