Fuzz-favouring psych-synth weirdo Tobacco has announced another solo LP apart from his Black Moth Super Rainbow side-project. Sweatbox Dynasty, his second full-length release for Ghostly International, is primed to come oozing out of speakers on August 19.
While the artist has collaborated with many over the years, a press release explains that the upcoming release was completely put together by Tobacco. Following the release of 2014's Ultima II Massage, the musician had apparently began working on a new LP, but quickly found himself stuck and uninspired.
"I felt I'd done everything I set out to do," he said in a statement. "I thought maybe I'd go away for a long time, and I went a year without even plugging anything in."
Following the self-imposed sabbatical, Tobacco was recharged enough to produce what would become Sweatbox Dynasty. As with his earliest experiments, each track was committed to cassette tape before being bounced onto a sampler.
The record is apparently filled with the sounds of analog synths, drum machines, gongs, sitars and "unidentifiable noise." Tobacco's vocals and "cheery na-na-nas" come drenched in hiss. The heavily distorted release dabbles in psych, funk, and "transcendental meltdowns."
"I do know how to ruin a good song," Tobacco adds. "I just gotta keep pushing to find new places to go."
