Last year, Exclaim! interviewed Tom DeLonge, at which time the celebrated songwriter from Blink-182 and Angels & Airwaves told us about his planned movie Monsters of California. Now, that coming-of-age sci-fi movie has gotten a trailer.
DeLonge's directorial debut follows a teenager named Dallas Edwards, who uncovers government secrets while examining paranormal events in Southern California.
"Anyone who knows me, or follows me on social media, knows I'm no stranger to the paranormal, which is why directing Monsters of California was a no-brainer," said DeLonge in a statement. "The film takes my fascination with the unexplained, combines it with the skate culture I grew up a part of, and tosses in my ridiculous sense of humour that millions got to witness during my Blink-182 days. In recent years, I've had the good fortune of helping the Government remember how much they care about UFOs through the work we do at [DeLonge's scientific company] To the Stars, and it's that experience which helped inspire this movie. I can't wait for audiences to see the fucked up fun adventure these kids go on."
The cast includes Richard Kind, Casper Van Dien, Arianne Zucker, Camille Kostek, Gabrielle Haugh, Jack Samson, Jared Scott and Jack Lancaster. It was co-written by DeLonge and Ian Miller, and was produced through DeLonge's To the Stars Media in tandem with Cartel Pictures. The film doesn't yet have a release date, as it's still looking for a distributor.
