Standford University chemist Carolyn Bertozzi — who is notably a former bandmate of Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello — has been awarded a Nobel Prize, CNN reports.
Morello's jam session co-conspirator from when they both attended Harvard has received the incomparable honour in the field of chemistry. According to the musician, Bertozzi was in a group called Bored of Education with him and they won the Ivy League Battle of the Bands in 1986.
She and research partners Morten Meldal and K. Barry Sharpless were awarded the Nobel Prize yesterday (October 5) for their work, founding and advancing the fields of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry. According to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Bertozzi, Meldal and Sharpless's research has "led to a revolution in how chemists think about linking molecules together."
"Congrats to my former @Harvard bandmate @CarolynBertozzi on her @NobelPrize in chemistry!" Morello tweeted. "We won the Ivy League Battle of the Bands in 1986 with our rockin' group 'Bored Of Education', with her on keyboards & me in spandex."
The Nobel Prize winner, embodying sheer excellence in all regards, proceeded to come through with some photographic evidence of the RATM guitarist in his spandex days — which you can see below, as well as Morello's tweet.

Rage Against the Machine recently cancelled their 2023 North American tour due to vocalist Zack de la Rocha's torn Achilles tendon.
