Tom Waits

"Tootie Ma Is a Big Fine Thing" (ft. Preservation Hall Jazz Band)

Published Nov 15, 2010

This month, Tom Waits and the New Orleans-based Preservation Hall Jazz Band will release a new limited 78-rpm record and a Waits-themed 78 player. As previously reported, the release is due out November 19, but you can check out A-side "Tootie Ma Is a Big Fine Thing" now.

The song and B-side "Corrine Died on the Battlefield" were first written and recorded in 1947 and "are the earliest known recorded examples of Mardi Gras Indian chants." You can buy the release -- either the player and the record or just the 78 -- here starting November 20 and simply press play on the player below to listen to "Tootie Ma Is a Big Fine Thing."
