Tom Waits to Appear in New 'Seven Psychopaths' Film

While it would seem that current Exclaim! cover star, Tom Waits, would be plenty busy promoting, and hopefully touring, his recently released Bad As Me LP, the gruff yet tender troubadour's upcoming work schedule will now include shooting the upcoming film, Seven Psychopaths.

Reuters reports that the singer-songwriter has attached himself to Oscar-winning writer Martin McDonagh's film, which will find him onscreen with Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken and Woody Harrelson. Actress Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) is allegedly in talks to join the project as well.

It's unclear exactly how Waits's reported character, Zachariah, fits into the big picture (we imagine it's not a reprisal of his Zack role from Down By Law), but a statement from CBS films explains that Seven Psychopaths is about a struggling screenwriter (Farrell) who "inadvertently becomes entangled in the Los Angeles criminal underworld after his oddball friends kidnap a gangster's beloved Shih Tzu." You just don't mess with a guy's dog, apparently.

The role adds on to Waits's ever-growing filmography, which recently found him voicing "a terrifying, giant, pitch-black swallow" in The Monster of Nix.

Having not been shot, Seven Psychopaths understandably has yet to receive a release date, but Bad As Me is available now on Anti-.
