The last time Tom Waits unleashed a wide release of studio material, he dropped the massive Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards back in 2006, which was a triple-CD containing a whopping 56 tracks. We can only imagine what he's got up his sleeve this time around, as Waits has now revealed that he's working on a new album.
Yesterday (February 24), Waits's Twitter feed was updated with this simple message: "Good News! Tom is currently in the studio working on his next album. Stay tuned."
Although it's been years since he released a proper album, Waits has hardly been silent as of late. His latest hijinks have included being considered for a role in The Hobbit, releasing a benefit compilation on rare 78 RPM vinyl and issuing a book of poetry about homelessness. And, of course, he's been playing live, and put out a live album called Glitter and Doom in 2009.
