Pop-leaning stoner faves Torche have announced they're taking their tunes in another direction this year, specifically by signing up with iconic metal imprint Relapse Records. A new record is in the works, with a due date expected sometime this summer.
Band bassist Jonathan Nuñez confirmed the move in a press statement, which adds that he and the rest of the band are currently holed up at Miami's Pinecrust Studio recording the as-yet-untitled LP. Nunez is producing the album, with Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou set to mix.
While song details have yet to arrive, Torche are hinting that their next full-length may hit a little harder than their 2012 set Harmonicraft.
"We're looking forward to working with a label that has stood the test of time while continuing to expand their diverse roster," Nuñez said in a statement, adding, "Releasing this record on Relapse lined up pretty well since it contains some of the heaviest songs we've written to date."
The announcement of a new Torche album means that guitarist Steve Brooks will be having a prolific 2014, having previously unveiled plans to issue a new LP with the reformed Floor. That band's Oblation, Floor's first new album in 12 years, arrives April 29 through Season of Mist.
Floor's 2002 self-titled album, meanwhile, arrived as an expanded reissue just yesterday (February 4) through Robotic Empire.
