Tracey Thorn Preps Opposites Remix EP

BY Alex HudsonPublished Aug 5, 2010

Back in the spring, Everything But the Girl songstress Tracey Thorn released Love and Its Opposite, moving away from her recent dance-floor-friendly material in favour of melancholy ballads. Thorn will be looking to continue this trend on a new remix EP, Opposites, which promises to eschew club cuts in favour of more cerebral pleasures.

In an announcement by Merge, Thorn said, "People often only remember the dance remixes I have been involved with, and forget the great futuristic reworks of my voice over the years by people like Photek, Omni Trio and Howie B. If my versions of my songs are often plain and direct, these mixes add question marks and blind alleys, and I like that. It adds a different colour and makes them closer to my work with Massive Attack perhaps."

The EP features six tracks - two versions apiece of three different songs. This includes the Cortney Tidwell-assisted "Swimming," which Visionquest transformed into a "swirling head-swim before the track locks onto a killer Fleetwood Mac groove for a deep Balearic summer ride."

The Blue Daisy version of "Late in the Afternoon" is "blunted and cinematic, heavy on sub-bass and twinkling stressed-out FX," while Walls turned "Kentish Town" into "a woozy blissed-out dream, part Krautrock, part Eno-esque ambience."

You can download Walls' remix for free here.

Opposites is digital-only, and will be released on August 24 from Beatport. It will be available from all the usual detail retailers on August 31.
