Bristol musician Tricky has shifted labels, including Island, Epitaph and Domino, throughout his 20-year solo career, but the artist just may have found his permanent home via his own imprint set up through Germany's !K7. Tricky's very own label will be known as False Idols.
A press statement from Tricky explains that his last label, Domino, did not share the same creative-minded goals as he did, so he's apparently quite chuffed to have set up his own imprint through !K7.
"In the last few years I was in a record deal but my vision and goals were not the same as the label so it became just business and paying the rent," he wrote. "Partnering with !K7 has put me back to where the music matters, and it shows with my new album. Having ideas that never come to fruition is one of the worst things that can happen to an artist, and now with !K7 I can be me."
Noting that he's not just "made of music," Tricky's False Idols brand will also apparently be used to his other creative skills, as well as showcasing other musicians, visual artists and writers.
"People are made up of many things so you just need to let them breathe. I have some great talent around me; artists I really respect and love and with False Idols, I will allow them to showcase their talent without being restricted."
Tricky has not yet properly announced plans for his follow-up to 2010's Mixed Race.
