As promised back in the fall, TV on the Radio frontman Tunde Adebimpe has announced his debut solo album. Thee Black Boltz will be out April 18 through Sub Pop Records, and the single "Drop" is out now.
An announcement notes that Adebimpe conceived of the album in 2019, then began working on it in earnest in 2021 in his L.A. studio alongside collaborator Wilder Zoby. According to a press release, this new process gave him a similar feeling to TV on the Radio's early experiments.
He said in a statement, "I've been doing this thing with this group of people for so long, that I can just have a vague sketch of a concept and I know Jaleel or Kyp will have five brilliant ideas on where it can go. But for Thee Black Boltz, I didn't have that scaffolding to hang on. That was both terrifying and exhilarating."
Hear "Drop" below. Previous single "Magnetic" is also included in the tracklist, which is also below.
