As the latest in Twin Shadow's UNDER THE CVRS series, the '80s-loving pop crooner has taken on the Smiths' classic anthem "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out."
The production values on this cover are a little higher on than on previous instalments in the series, since Twin Shadow turns it into a grooving dance-pop number. It's a duet with Friends singer Samantha Urbani. The accompanying video, meanwhile, brings the lyrical fantasies of a lovestruck car wreck to life.
Twin Shadow dude George Lewis Jr. told Rookie, "Everything I do, I mean sincerely, but there is a little joke within this one. In every critique of Twin Shadow, there is a dropping of Morrissey's name, which I always thought was funny because I have never really been a huge fan of Morrissey or the Smiths. [Laughs] So it's a nod to people calling me 'the Dominican Morrissey.'"
