We've known for quite some time that UK electronic duo Underworld were working together with director Danny Boyle on the London 2012 Olympics' opening ceremony, which takes place July 27. Details have now surfaced on the musical piece, and if you happen to miss the broadcast of the event, you'll soon be able to enjoy the music on your own time.
Underworld's composition is titled Isle of Wonder: Music for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, and following the live performance, at midnight July 28, you can nab the music via iTunes. A physical edition will then hit retailers August 6 via Decca/Universal.
A press release explains that the opening ceremony was inspired by Caliban's dream in Shakespeare's The Tempest. While Decca president Dickon Stainer admitted in a statement that they're keeping the tracklisting under wraps until after the ceremony, Isle of Wonder is expected to feature choirs, orchestras, and the chiming of a specially commissioned 23-ton bell.
The companion LP A Symphony of British Music -- Music for the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games will be released on August 12.
