Update: Boards of Canada Confirm They Are Working on New Material

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Mar 14, 2012

Late last month, BBC 6 Music host Peter Serafinowicz made ambient electronic fans all aglow when he dished over the airwaves that long-dormant Scottish duo Boards of Canada have new music on the way. Though details are still scarce, the group have now stepped in to confirm they are indeed working on another album.

The act made the announcement on their Facebook page after a fan posed the question, "Rumours of a new BOC album are rife ? , any truth in this ?" Boards of Canada's answer was "yes."

So, there's still no title, no tracklisting, or even a projected release date, but at least Boards of Canada have taken the concept of a new album from the realm of rumour into reality. The outfit's label Warp have yet to comment on the status of the collection.

Serafinowicz had previously said, "I think it's gonna be a double album," so we could be in store for an epic outing. Regardless, it'll be the band's first set since 2005's The Campfire Headphase.

UPDATE: As Pitchfork reports, a Warp rep has said no new Boards of Canada album is currently scheduled for release, despite the recent Facebook post. The rep said, "They are definitely working on new material, but there is nothing in the cards at the moment in terms of a scheduled release." So as you can see from that quote, the duo are definitely working on new tracks; there's just no word yet on when or how we will hear them. So basically they're pulling an Aphex Twin.

Thanks to FACT for the tip.
