Van Morrison has written some classic songs over the past 50 years, and the Northern Irish tunesmith is gathering up some of his best material on a career-spanning lyric book called Lit Up Inside that will be out on October 2 through publishers Faber & Faber.
Morrison said in an announcement on his website, "The lyrics in this book span 50 years of writing and as such are representative of my creative journey."
If the book goes back as far as 50 years, then we're guessing it includes material from Morrison's early band Them. Their classic hit "Gloria" came out 50 years ago last month (July 1964).
Rolling Stone notes that the 224-page tome includes about a third of the lyrics Morrison has released throughout his career. The songwriter himself selected the lyrics to be included. It comes with a forward from poet David Meltzer.
Lit Up Inside will be available in a standard edition, a signed edition, or a signed and numbered deluxe version that comes with reproductions of handwritten lyrics.
Morrison will launch the book with an event at London, UK's Lyric Theatre on November 17. He will read, discuss and perform some of the songs, with guests throughout the night including Eamonn Hughes, Ian Rankin, Michael Longley, Edna O'Brien and more.
