Red Robinson, a longtime Vancouver radio personality, has died. He was 86.

Robinson died on April 1. His children, Kellie and Sheri, wrote on social media that he died while surrounded by family, following a brief illness. They wrote, "Most people knew our Dad as a rock 'n' roll DJ, a TV personality, an ad agency owner, a spokesperson, or through his philanthropic work. He was larger-than-life in a lot of ways, but to us he was a devoted father and grandfather, a loving husband to our late mom Carole, and a loyal friend to everybody."

Robinson began his radio career in the '50s, and CityNews notes that Robinson provided the on-stage introductions for both Elvis Presley and the Beatles.

He retired from the radio in 2017; at the time, he was working at Metro Vancouver's CISL. He didn't entirely disappear from the public sphere: he remained active on social media, posting music and career memories. The day before his death, he wrote, "Tomorrow is a special day for me. Not just because it's April Fools' Day, but that day marks two milestones in my radio career." He noted that April 1 was the day he started at CKWX in 1957, and the day he joined C-FUN in 1962.

His children said that a celebration of life will be announced.
