What is amazing about this compilation is that each of the acoustic guitarists that were asked to submit a piece were given the restriction of not using reverberation or other effects to "distort" the natural tone. Within the first couple of minutes, one immediately begins to forget that the instrument is a guitar, and the sound of it transforms into something else, thanks to the unique and beyond avant-garde skills that each musician here possesses. The highlights include contributions by Fred Frith, Raoul Bjorkenheim, Mike Keneally, Michael Gulezian, Nels Cline and Miroslav Tadic. Each destroys conventions and provides textures that bend time signatures and create downright strange personalities through the guitar. Essentially it seems almost as if everything that can be done with an acoustic guitar is documented here, making this a rather important album to get if you are interested in being entertained in ways you haven't heard before through music.
