9-16 Split Series

BY Tabassum SiddiquiPublished Apr 1, 2004

The second compilation of tracks taken from a series of split twelve-inches by Brit experimental electronic label Fat Cat (Sigur Rós, Mum), this disc is an odd compendium of fairly well-known electro oddballs (Kid 606, Matmos) and obscure beat scientists (Duplo_Remote, anyone?). While their own current roster of artists tends towards the softer side of the spectrum, what’s on offer here could give Plastikman nightmares — the first half is mostly digital hardcore (even 606 is more glitch-y and noisy than usual), but then Process’ aptly-named "Popbeat” carries into the keyboard-driven latter part. Unusual — and uneasy — listening.
