BoomBox

BY Marinko JarebPublished Feb 20, 2008

BoomBox is a mix by DJ Jerry Bouthier meant to capture the music and vibe of the highly successful Sunday night jam of the same name in London’s trendy Shoreditch. What set BoomBox apart wasn’t the free entry or the small-ish size, with a capacity of only 500, but its very fashionable crowd and music. It’s fitting then that Kitsune, a Paris-based, Franco-Japanese fashion house and record label, would be responsible for giving the rest of the world a glimpse of what happens on the Lord’s Day in the UK. The sound is undeniably "electro rock,” with tracks by Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco, Daft Punk, Chromeo and the Glimmers, with Princess Superstar on the mic. There is even a remix of Feist’s delicate "1,2,3,4” that turns the song into a totally mashed up dance floor ripper. Despite the fact that BoomBox no longer exists as a club night, its musical legacy lives on with this brilliant compilation, which is as contemporary, high energy and loud as the fashions of the jet-set crowd that frequented the party.
