Coming From Tha D: Blueprint

BY Philip DowneyPublished Oct 1, 2001

Remember "Warm Leatherette," by the Normal? Cool track from 1978 with proto-industrial beats, sounds and a monotone voice describing a car crash, ultimately leading to, you guessed it, melted leatherette on flesh. Great track. Now imagine 16 artists who have listened to that song far too many times contributing to a compilation. The result would be this one, Coming from Tha D. This is not to say it's a bad compilation, but the track titles certainly point out the influence: "Cigarette Lighter" and "Murder Scene," to name two. There are a few really good tracks by Japanese Telecom, Ectomorph, Andy Toth and Detroit Grand Pubahs. There are also some really bad ones too, including DJ Godfather's "Whatchulookinat" and Aaron-Carl's "No No." So if you liked "Warm Leatherette," you'll like this. Otherwise, you'll wonder what all the fuss is about.
