For the past ten years, San Franciscos Om Records has been a trendsetter in house and down-tempo electronic music. Om changed things by concentrating on albums and compilations rather than twelve-inch records, and by injecting electronic music with soul and world music. Mark Farinas popular Mushroom Jazz brought instrumental hip-hop to a wide variety of house music fans and DJs that may have otherwise slept on the genre. This three-disc collection brings together some of the classics that have made Om a label to watch, whether it be funky, jackin house or soulful hip-hop masterpieces. If youve been following house music all along, this release wont mean much because youll have many of these tracks in your collection already. But if youre new to the genre, A Decade of Future Music is a great place to start.
