Hed Kandi started as a compilation label in 1999, driven and founded by esteemed DJ and industry-man Mark Doyle. The label expanded, running radio shows, weekly multi-locale parties and, after being bought by Ministry of Sound in early 2006, has acquired a Boeing 757 that flies from the UK to Ibiza. So, if the label has gotten flack for putting their commercial ventures before their music (after Doyle’s departure) it’s not exactly surprising. On Serve Chilled the tunes range from Latin to electro-chill to Tom Waits-esque to Café Del Mar to lazy down-tempo and upbeat. The record brings a quality selection in the spirit and direction of old Ministry of Sound chill-out albums, emanating aptitude and touch. The second disc begins with two classic tracks: a slowed-down version of Solar Stone’s "Seven Cities” that will have chills running over your body and "Finally,” Kings of Tomorrow’s house anthem remixed with the dial turned to chill. Other highlights include "The Cure and The Cause” by Fish Go Deep, "One Love” by Sara Tavares and "African Girl” by Nayo.
