Saint-Germain-des-Prés Café IV

BY Tabassum SiddiquiPublished Apr 1, 2004

Leave it to the French to put together a stylish, super smooth electro-jazz collection. The Saint-Germain Café series sells like hotcakes, and there’s a reason why — they’re reliable, quality nu-jazz releases, and this most recent volume offers a nice mix of soul, groove, and low-key beats, while treading lightly into house and Latin sounds. Those who can’t bear the diva vocals thing will find some tracks to skip, but you can’t go wrong with the likes of genre mainstays Kruder & Dorfmeister ("High Noon”), Koop ("Tonight” remix), and Matthew Herbert ("Suddenly"). Expect to hear a lot of this at high-end cafés any minute now.
