Wide Hive Remixed

BY Andy LeePublished Nov 1, 2003

A refreshingly diverse affair, Wide Hive Remixed showcases not only the talent found on the independent San Francisco label, but also the artists reinterpreting them. Ranging from down-tempo to hip-hop to deep house, the disc continually delights, be it Nathalie Sanchez’s heavenly vocal addition to Dissent’s "Rudy,” Geology’s shimmering Neptunes makeover of "Shine,” or beatScape’s electro translation of DJ Zeph’s "Bronx Zulu” into "Brooklyn Swahili.” Other notables include Freestyle Fellowship’s P.E.A.C.E. on Calvin Keys’ "Urban Shaman” and Tommy Guerrero, who lends his soulful touch to Dissent’s "Eclectric Company.” The Hive is alive.
