The Velvet Underground

"Sister Ray" (live)

A few weeks before Lou Reed died, Universal announced that the Velvet Underground's White Light/White Heat would be getting an expanded 45th anniversary reissue. It arrives on December 10, and we can get a taste of some of the collection's bonus material thanks to a live version of "Sister Ray."

This comes from a set in New York in the spring of 1967, and it appears on both the two-disc and three-disc editions of the reissue. It's a 19-minute jam that's soaked in fuzz, feedback, and sonic mayhem. In other words, it's not too much of a departure from the studio version of "Sister Ray."
