In what is being billed as an "unprecedented reunion," three of the four surviving members of the Velvet Underground will appear together at the New York Public Library this December.
The library refers to the band as "the Beatles of New York" in their promotional material and generally seems to be shitting its collective pants over the joint appearance of singer/songwriter and guitarist Lou Reed, drummer Maureen Tucker and bassist Doug Yule, who replaced original bass player John Cale in 1968.
On December 8, the Velvet trio will discuss the band's music and career with rock journalist David Fricke under the "Live from the New York Public Library" series banner.
The appearance will also be a perfect chance for Reed, Tucker and Yule to promote a recently released book, The Velvet Underground: New York Art, which details the damaged art rock band's early years in the New York scene under the tutelage of pop icon Andy Warhol.
Those lucky enough to reside in New York can get their tickets for the event here. And we're positive all those in attendance will be on the edge of their uncomfortable library chairs to see if the band members are carrying any acoustic instruments for an impromptu performance.
