Vic Mensa and Weezer's Rivers Cuomo Join Forces for Collaborative Track

Vic Mensa is currently in the midst of prepping a full-length debut called Traffic, and it turns out he's asked Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo for a bit of help. A new song on the set is said to sample Pinkerton singalong "The Good Life," with Cuomo also adding new vocals.

News of the team-up comes from an interview with Mensa, where it's explained that recording sessions for the album have been taking place between Chicago and L.A. with producers Mike Dean, John Hill and TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek. Cuomo was invited to a session to hear a tune that features a sample of "The Good Life" on the chorus, and he apparently loved it so much that he ended up throwing down some fresh vocals on the track as well.

The song apparently has Mensa rapping about a volatile, four-year relationship with a woman where they both "loved each other to a point of extreme hate."

"It's just one of the craziest experiences of my life," he told Clash [via Pitchfork]. "I have a real fucking life that's tumultuous and dangerous and beautiful at the same time. I recently realized I'm a hopeless romantic, and it stresses me out but it gives me things to talk about. My driving force is love but it's kind of at times in conflict with the wild shit that comes along with being me."

On top of the Cuomo collaboration, the interview also makes mention of new songs titled "Ring the Bell" and "Rage." A due date has yet to be affixed to the LP, but the rapper noted that the set takes a good hard look at his surroundings.

He explained: "It's my perspective on everything going on around me, internally and externally. This overcoming of my struggles with my personal struggles and my interpersonal struggles with addiction and with my relationship, and with — I wouldn't say politics, I don't give a fuck about politics — but with the real world, with the streets."

Earlier this year, Mensa offered up a music video for his "No Chill" team-up with EDM figure Skrillex. While Mensa has issued a number of singles over the last few years, his last full release was his much-hyped INNANETAPE from 2013.

Weezer issued their latest self-titled album earlier this month.
