The Weekend

Weekend

"No politics, no message, just popular rock and roll for every man, woman and child." This here is a pretty good description of what the Weekend's self-titled album sounds like. The Weekend are a quartet from Toronto that are kind of reminiscent of the now defunct That Dog. However, unlike That Dog's inability to write a complete album of great pop songs, The Weekend is a really good album. The combination of Andrea Wasse and Lorien Jones on vocals makes the songs sound fuller and the sweet synthesisers maintain a pop kitsch sheen to most of the tunes, though in the end it is always the rockin' guitars that make this rock'n'roll. Kind of makes you want to break out a can of Cherry Coke and a packet of Belly Buttons.
