Weekend Nachos

It's extremely refreshing to see a power violence resurgence happening in the States, and this third full-length from Chicago, IL's Weekend Nachos (their first for Relapse) upholds the revered legacy of bands like Spazz and Capitalist Casualties. On this energetic album, tunes like "The Meeting" are basically heavy punk, while "Obituary" and "Frostbitten" do the slow, sludge-y, bass-heavy trawl, and "Old Friends Don't Mean Shit" and "Friendship" bring the hysterical grind. But it's a bass-heavy power violence kind of grind, with a tossed-off sense of humour and raw, sloppy edge. Having the title track start with two minutes of feedback in the middle of the album is a brilliant move, while "The Fine Art of Bullshit" takes simplistic riffing to new, gloriously grinding levels. There's nothing new on display, but this particular micro-genre is rarely done as well as it is on Worthless.
