Having recently released the decidedly un-autumnal and pretty bad SZNZ: Autumn, Weezer have now launched something of a marketing campaign that has come together just as haphazardly.

This summer, an unsolicited billboard that simply reads "WEEZER" — notably in Comic Sans — appeared on a roadside somewhere in Utah. It was purchased by influencer, entrepreneur and Weezhead Cory Hunter Winn to promote his clothing company, Lucca International, by reminding people of what's truly important in this life (and the fact that anyone can buy a billboard).

Likewise opening up their eyes, Weezer saw the sign and responded the only fitting way: by erecting another billboard down the street, giving thanks for the other one. In the same style (though a more restrained sentence case), the placard reads: "Thanks to whoever bought the billboard down the road. - Weezer."

At first, Winn was in disbelief. Last week, he posted a video showing the second billboard. "Alright, alright — so I bought this billboard, right? Everyone knows. It's in Utah," he said. "It's been there for, what, six months now? But today, this one pops up down the road. I'm not kidding."

Winn added, "Who did this? Was it Weezer?! Are we in contact?!"

The band confirmed their involvement in the response by reposting a video of it on TikTok over the weekend.

"Well, I guess this clears up any concern we had about where the billboard came from," Winn said in a follow-up TikTok. "They tagged us. Weezer! They tagged us!"

The Lucca International owner added that they will be responding soon, presumably with another billboard. These guys are old school.
