Wii Play

After months and months, I still bust out Wii Sports to impress guests, but that pride does not extend to the game’s nominal sequel Wii Play. Ignoring both Sports’ physically exerting fun and Wario Ware’s bizarre antics, Play features nine bland mini-games that are passable as friendly competition but pretty damn dull when played solo. There are variations on ping-pong, air hockey, fishing, a refreshingly odd cow racing game, an Atari-type tank shooter, a Duck Hunt-inspired shooter and billiards, with the latter two being the best of the bunch. Admittedly, this isn’t so much a game as a tutorial demo packaged with a Wii-mote (which are pretty hard to come by on their own) and while it’s arguably worth the $10 extra, with so many cool mini-game collections now available, one would have expected Nintendo to step their game up.
